BEAM - Better Ethics Association for Modeling
The Better Ethics Association for Modeling (B.E.A.M.) is a values-driven certification organization created by Midwest Model Agency. We’re here to raise the standard in the modeling and talent industry by prioritizing ethics, safety, transparency, and family trust.
Any modeling or talent agency may apply for certification by B.E.A.M. for a one-time fee of $100. There are no annual dues, no hidden website costs, and no auto-renewing contracts. This is about doing right by talent and clients alike.
Agencies Must Agree to the Following Standards:
Transparent Invoicing: No “double dipping” on commissions (e.g., charging both the model and the client a 20% fee without disclosure).
No Pay-to-Work Photo Packages: Agencies must not require talent to purchase photo packages to be considered for work.
Support for Personal Safety: Recommend firearm training to all adult models where legally permitted.
Photographer Security: Photographers may be armed (legally and discreetly) for talent protection on location.
Community and Law Enforcement Support: Member agencies should associate with anti-trafficking and public safety groups (e.g., Iowa Businesses Against Trafficking - IBAT).
No Hidden Fees: No annual membership fees. No additional fees for website listings.
No High-Cost Conferences: The agency will not support or suggest expensive, unnecessary, and superfluos conferences, meetings or events.
No Auto-Renew Contracts: All contracts must be transparent and non-renewing unless explicitly agreed to.
Parental Rights for Minors: All contracts involving minors must include a written clause allowing the minor to opt out, per legal standards in most U.S. States. (If you are a minor and your parent has signed you to a modeling or talent contract you can opt out now.)
No Nudity Policy: BEAM-certified agencies must prohibit nudity or semi-nude content (including see-through apparel or exposed genitalia) in all photo or video work.
No Pressure to Relocate: Talent must not be coerced into relocating to other states or cities with the promise of work, only to be burdened with unexpected housing costs or obligations.
Agencies that cannot agree to these terms will not be certified by B.E.A.M.
